I’ll be honest when I first found this nestling among some Incheon makgeolli in a local Bupyeong mart, I bought it more out of curiosity then expectation…I was wrong. I really didn’t expect to like it but it is actually really good. It is a little sour but it definitely packs a punch and might just be a acquired taste. It’s also a little thick with some slight carbonation
Made by the Daechi Brewery, it is the first new makgeolli brewed by the two sons who recently inherited the company business. The concept behind the name is the idea of telling the story of all those fathers who feel they lost their youth, I assume due to studying as opposed to drinking down the park like I did. This makgeolli definitely caused some conflict for me, I normally stay away from “craft” makgeoli as I like the more traditional drinks….but I love the story and the idea….and more importantly it’s a really good makgeolli.
