Baekryun ‘Snow’ Makgeolli is a light and smooth rice wine that is really easy to drink a couple of bottles over the course of a night. It is made using the white lotus flower and so does have a little bit of a bitter aftertaste but nothing that would make you winch or think twice about having another cup. It has almost no carbonation so it doesn’t bag you up quickly and is safe to give a proper shake to before opening. It was selected by ex-President Lee Myung-bak as the official ‘makgeolli of the Blue House’.
Snow Makgeolli, just like their other products such as “Misty”, is available in both glass and plastic bottles. I have only tried the plastic bottled makgeolli but, allegedly, it tastes a little better in a glass bottle. It is called “Snow” due to the aforementioned white lotus flower which is supposed to make it taste/feel like the first snow of winter, I’m not so sure that’s a good thing to be honest but at least it is a unique Marketing idea…..whether is as successful as unique I guess we’ll find out.
